Herr Hansen: the mystery clergyman
In our collection of photographs at Buckie and District Fishing Heritage Centre we have this one amongst the collection associated with the Norwegians in Buckie.
It looks to have been taken in the later 1960s or early 1970s and possibly at Christmas time if that is a decorated tree at the bottom left of the image. We have a date of 1966 on one document attached to the picture but are not sure of the accuracy of this.
It is labelled "Ase and Tugolf Hansen" but we are not sure that this is correct (or at least whether the spellings are correct). The gentleman is clearly a priest of the Church of Norway and so far we have been unable to track down any details. We are not convinced that the name 'Tugolf' is correct and this is, of course, hampering any investigations.
We do not know what the connection to Buckie was; whether either or both were here during the war or whether they were the children of people who were in Buckie in the 1940s.
