Mr Tuxworth:
the Swedish Consul

The number of Swedish fishermen in Buckie during the war was never particularly large; effectively it was made up of the crew of three boats, the Hispano and Lillvor from Hönö (see
Frank Corneliusson) and the Ragnhild from Styrsö.  However, the Swedish Government, through its Consulate in Aberdeen, decided that the appointment of an honorary consul in Buckie was a good idea.

They chose Sidney Matthew Tuxworth who was a town councillor and ran a fish selling business.  Sidney Tuxworth was born in Kingston-Upon-Hull in 1887.  For many years he ran a fish selling business in Grimsby before moving north to Buckie.  His firm also acted as ship agents and, in addition to the Town Council, he also served on the Chamber of Commerce.

Sidney Tuxworth resigned from the Town Council in 1948 and later moved to Aberdeen.  He died there in 1957.
